About Nicaragua

Officially the Republic of Nicaragua, Nicaragua is both the largest nation in Central America and also the least densely populated. It is located in Central America, bordering both the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean, between Honduras and Costa Rica.. Falling within the tropics, Nicaragua sits just 11 degrees north of the Equator in the Northern Hemisphere. The country features tropical temperatures in the lowlands and a cooler climate in the highlands.  Nicaragua is slightly smaller than the state of New York, with close to 20% of the country’s territory designated as protected areas such as national parks, nature reserves and biological reserves.

Nicaragua’s geography is diverse, and includes a mountain range with several large volcanoes, fertile lowland plains, miles of pristine beaches, and the largest freshwater lake in Central America, Lake Nicaragua, which is home to the world’s only freshwater sharks. Over half of the nation’s population lives in the Pacific lowlands region, with over one million inhabitants populating the capital city of Managua. Although 90% of the Nicaraguan population speaks Spanish, many people on the Caribbean coast of the country speak English as their first language. The capital city of Managua possesses a strong urban energy with many of the features expected from a metropolitan area, including expansive shopping and entertainment, a state-of-the-art medical center and international airport. Most major airlines offer daily service to Nicaragua, including nonstop flights from major U.S. cities.

Over the last two decades, Nicaragua has become one of the safest and fastest-growing countries in Latin America, with a strong and progressive democratic government that is very supportive of investment in the country.  As a result, the country now possesses one of the most dynamic economies in Central America, experiencing substantial increases in private investments and exports.  Direct foreign investment has seen double-digit increases annually, and tourism has skyrocketed nearly 50% over the last five years.

Our Nicaragua Homes are the finest in the area. We have Nicaragua Homes that are new and some that are a bit older but still retain their Nicaragua Homes charm.

For adventurers, the country offers endless possibilities, including canopy tours through the forests, diving and snorkeling along living reefs, surfing and kayaking, exploring volcanoes and crater lakes, hiking mountain trails, or just relaxing along a pristine expanse of beach.
